Living on campus

Living on campus puts you inside a Christ-centered community where learning keeps going after class. Residence Life works to make the halls safe and welcoming, and to give you room to grow in responsibility, friendships and faith.

The Residence Life staff includes the Senior Residential Director, Hall Directors, Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants. Your RA lives on your floor and is the first person to ask when something comes up.

The residence halls

Alma Gatewood Hall (AG) is a three-story hall for up to 132 students, with separate men's and women's floors. Every floor has a laundry room and kitchenette with three washers, three dryers, a sink, a stove and a microwave. Rooms are suite style, with two rooms sharing a bathroom.

Ferndale-Hoggatt Hall has two wings: Hoggatt for men and Ferndale for women. Each wing has a first-floor kitchen, and the laundry room on the first floor has five washers and six dryers. Dearborn Commons, the lobby between the wings, is open to everyone and holds a computer, a printer and your campus mailbox.

Barbier Hall is a two-story hall. Each floor has a large community bathroom with private showers and individual vanities, and laundry is on the first floor.

Palmer Hall has five studio apartments for residents who are 25 or older, married couples, and residents with dependents. Four of the units have a kitchenette. If you are interested in Palmer, contact Residence Life before the semester starts. Married couples get priority.

Alma Gatewood, Barbier and Ferndale-Hoggatt are for residents under 25.

What your room includes

• Two beds that can be lofted or bunked
• A desk and a chair for each resident
• A walk-in closet or wardrobes, and dressers (these vary by hall)
• Free laundry in your building
• Campus Wi-Fi

Bring your own bedding, towels, bathing supplies and hangers. Check the handbook's list of approved and prohibited items before you bring any appliance.

Applying for housing

• New students can apply from December 1 to August 1, once enrollment is complete. You will get a housing contract by email in the summer, and your room assignment by late July after the contract is in.
• Returning students can apply from March 1 to July 1 in the housing portal. Rooms are assigned first come, first served, and specific room requests cannot be guaranteed.
• After August 1, applications go on a waiting list, and Residence Life emails you when a room opens.

To live on campus you must be enrolled full time, which is at least 12 credit hours. To drop below 12 and stay in the halls, submit the Part-Time Student Housing Appeal on the Student Portal first.

Private rooms are limited and go first to students with a documented medical accommodation. Without one, a private room costs an extra $929 per semester and is assigned only after all other rooms are filled.

Everyone in the traditional residence halls buys a residential meal plan. Exemptions go through the Accommodation Request form on the Student Portal.
